Mary began singing in her local church choir, where she was recommended to take singing lessons with a view to developing as a soloist.
She passed a number of singing examinations culminating in becoming Associate of the Royal College of Music (ARCM) for Singing (Performing). While still at school, Mary also developed an interest in musical theatre, and managed to balance academic studies with a wide range of solo, choral and stage work.
Mary continued her musical studies during her time at university, winning a number of trophies in Music Festivals in the Midlands, the North West and Wales. After graduating from the University of Manchester with a 2.1 BA (Hons) degree in History, Mary continued to develop her repertoire, dividing her time between concerts, oratorio and stage work.
Since moving to the North East, Mary has been able to develop her love of opera by taking leading roles with many different opera and light opera groups. Mary is now principal soloist with Cleveland based opera group, Opera Nova.
